The Florida Project talks about the inner reality of rich tourist attractions. Disneyland Orlando is hotspot for tourist in American history. The film story happens on the next to Disneyland. The main characters are living in a weekly motel. They are struggling to make their daily and weekly rent. The kids are growing without enough guidance or supervision from guardian. The film opens up to the poverty on the America’s popular city.
Hailey is struggling single mom who lives in a weekly motel without a job and end up being a prostitute to meet their weekly rent and keep her kid in the bathroom while she is meeting the stranger. Hailey’s friend Ashley is also single mom who works in a restaurant. who steal food to share with Hailey and her daughter.
The film itself shows lower class people who are struggling to make money to live an ordinary life. The same city bring tourist to spend their lavish life and holidays.
Hailey steals Disney resort pass from a stranger and sell it for $400 which is actually cost around $1700.She doesn’t have the idea about the real price because she worries about the daily or weekly expenses of her life. Each of these characters are stuck in a small life like their motel rooms. They don’t dream big or talks or dream about to have bigger life. The kids are roam around every place and stores during the day but at the end, they come back their small life.
At one point, Mooney and friends go to rundown houses where they talk about being make it in bedroom and excited for seeing a fireplace, eventually set a fire on it. At the end of the scene, the house turns into a fire, which it shows their dreams or wish doesn’t last long.
